SilvaProtect-CH (hazard information at national level): Snow avalanches
During avalanche release, snow suddenly detaches in the starting zone. The detached snow mass slides very quickly along a track or rolls down the slope as a mixture of air and snow. It comes to a halt in a deposition area. This layer contains a general hazard index map of the potential avalanche release areas based on the modelling of the avalanche process carried out by the SilvaProtect-CH project. The modelling of the avalanche processes does not take the effect of forests into account.
